chatgpt image where my heart learned to anchor

The World’s A Little Blurry: July 3

Peace isn’t the absence of storms. It’s learning where to anchor.

I’ve always been fascinated by pageants.

There was a time when every contestant, when handed a microphone, seemed to speak about peace.

World peace.

Inner peace.

Peace among nations.

As a child, I listened carefully.

And somewhere along the way, I began asking myself the same question.

What is peace?

Back then, my answer was simple.

Peace meant a life without problems.

A life where everything finally settled.

A season where nothing hurt.

So I waited.

I waited for the day life would become less busy.

Less painful.

Less uncertain.

I thought peace would arrive when I reached adulthood.

It never did.

When I was in my last year of elementary school, I would watch college students return home during summer.

They walked differently.

More confidently.

They looked free.

I envied them.

Then, in the afternoons, I’d watch high school students laughing as they walked home together.

Their conversations filled the streets.

Their laughter echoed across our little town.

From where I stood, it seemed as though they had no worries at all.

I wanted to grow up as quickly as they had.

I believed adulthood was where peace lived.

Then I grew up.

I graduated from college.

I celebrated becoming a degree holder.

Only to realize that another mountain stood before me.

The board examinations.

I passed on my first attempt.

Then came another storm.

Finding a job.

I sent applications.

Sat through interviews.

Collected rejections.

Until one employer finally said yes.

Then came another beginning.

Living away from home.

Learning to stand on my own.

Managing my own finances.

Questioning whether I was building the life I truly wanted.

I worked as a Medical Technologist while quietly nurturing my dream of becoming a writer.

Later, I stepped into the world of financial advising.

A new dream.

A new fear.

Another unfamiliar road.

Looking back now, I realize something I couldn’t see then.

Every milestone simply introduced a different kind of storm.

Life never became storm-free.

It simply taught me how to weather different kinds of rain.

Storms don’t ask for permission.

Sometimes they arrive with warnings.

Sometimes they don’t.

Either way, they come.

And life has an interesting way of moving forward even when we’re exhausted.

It doesn’t pause because we’re overwhelmed.

It doesn’t wait until we’ve caught our breath.

For a long time, I thought peace depended on my circumstances.

That once everything fell into place, my heart finally would too.

I was wrong.

Peace isn’t something we stumble upon after life becomes easy.

It’s something we choose to cultivate while life remains uncertain.

A boat doesn’t wait for calm seas before dropping its anchor.

It anchors because storms are inevitable.

Perhaps people are the same.

We don’t become peaceful because life finally stops shaking us.

We become peaceful because we’ve discovered what keeps us steady when it does.

For me, that anchor has always been God.

Not because He removed every storm.

But because He never abandoned me in one.

Prayer became the place where my restless thoughts finally learned to breathe.

My family reminded me that I was never carrying life’s burdens alone.

Writing gave my fears somewhere to rest.

My friends reminded me that hope often arrives through people.

And purpose gave me a reason to keep walking, even when I couldn’t yet see where the road was leading.

I still have days when uncertainty visits.

I still overthink.

I still wonder what tomorrow will look like.

The storms haven’t disappeared.

But I have changed.

I’ve learned to breathe before I panic.

To pray before I surrender to fear.

To wait before assuming the worst.

To trust even when I don’t yet understand.

Because storms will always come.

But so will the One who has faithfully carried me through every one before.

I’ve always thought that the world’s a little blurry.

For years, I asked God to calm the storms around me.

Only to discover that all along, He was teaching me how to anchor the storm within me.
