I always think that the world’s a little blurry.
We don’t always need a new beginning. Sometimes, we simply need a new perspective.
What if the problem isn’t always where we are, but how we have learned to look at where we are?
I’ve always had a fascination with starting over.
I romanticize new beginnings.
Sometimes, I think I need a new job. A new city. A new routine. A new year. A completely different life.
I convince myself that changing my circumstances will automatically change how I feel.
But sometimes, I bring the same perspective into every new place.
There have been moments when I wanted to start over—moments when I felt stuck, disappointed, uncertain, or dissatisfied.
I thought the answer was somewhere else.
But eventually, I began asking myself a different question…
What if I don’t need a different life? What if I need to see this life differently?
And so, I began to discern the difference between changing my life and changing my perspective.
A difficult season doesn’t necessarily become easy just because I look at it differently.
But perspective can change what I notice.
When I reframe something and look at it from a different point of view, something shifts.
Sometimes, a lot shifts.
A setback can become a lesson.
A delay can become preparation.
An ordinary job can become provision.
A simple life can still be a meaningful life.
A quiet season can still be productive.
The circumstances may remain the same.
But the meaning I give them can change.
And when I pause—when I give myself a quiet moment to reflect and breathe—I sometimes see the things I overlooked while I was busy searching for something bigger.
My eyes were so focused on a particular destination that I failed to notice everything happening in the background.
Sometimes, we’re so focused on what we don’t have that we fail to notice what we do.
I mourned the people who left and failed to appreciate the people who stayed.
I pursued careers that paid more and forgot to be grateful for the work that sustained me.
I dreamed of a bigger house and forgot to appreciate the home I already had.
I searched for routines that looked better from the outside and ignored the small routines that kept me grounded.
I kept my eyes fixed on certain goals and forgot to thank God for the prayers that had already been answered.
I worked so hard to cross accomplishments off my bucket list that I forgot to celebrate the quiet growth happening within me.
Maybe the life I keep calling ordinary is actually a life I once prayed for.
And realizing that changed the way I looked at my life.
I began learning to see familiar things with fresh eyes.
I looked at my parents differently.
I remembered the arguments I had with them when I was younger because they didn’t give me what I wanted. Now, I look at them with clearer eyes because I understand their sacrifices more deeply.
I began appreciating my work differently.
What once felt like routine became meaningful when I recognized its purpose.
I began looking at my season differently.
The same season can feel completely different when you stop measuring it against someone else’s timeline.
Even the same dream can look different after you’ve grown.
Perspective doesn’t mean pretending everything is beautiful.
It doesn’t.
Sometimes, things genuinely hurt.
Sometimes, you really do need to leave.
Sometimes, a new beginning is necessary.
But perspective helps us distinguish between needing to change our circumstances and needing to change the way we interpret them.
You don’t always know why God allows certain seasons.
You don’t always understand the delay, the disappointment, or the closed door.
Sometimes, the miracle isn’t that the situation changes.
Sometimes, the miracle is that your heart changes within it.
I’ve learned the value of living in the moment.
Of appreciating the life I have instead of constantly waiting for the life I think I should have.
I realized that I had spent so much time waiting for the next chapter that I hadn’t fully appreciated the one I was already living.
I don’t need to have everything figured out.
I don’t need to abandon everything and become someone else.
Perhaps I simply need to pause.
And look again.
Maybe I don’t need to start over.
Maybe I need to look at this beginning with new eyes.
Because sometimes, what feels like a life that needs changing is simply a life that needs to be seen differently.
Growing up, I’ve always thought that the world’s a little blurry.
Perhaps sometimes, the blur isn’t asking me to leave where I am.
Perhaps it’s simply asking me to look again—to notice what I missed, to understand what I once misunderstood, and to see that the life in front of me may be more beautiful than I first thought.
Sometimes the answer isn’t to turn the page. Sometimes it’s to reread the page with wiser eyes.
